The worries every children’s author has (but rarely says aloud)
Hiya,
When I speak with children’s book authors, I hear the same quiet worries again and again. Here are five of the most common ones and how I see them:
1. “What if my story isn’t good enough?”
If you feel in your heart that this story is worth telling, then it is good enough. That feeling means someone out there needs to hear it and the right illustrator can help bring it to life for the readers who will treasure it.
2. “What if the illustrations don’t match what I imagined?”
My way of working is to spend time getting to know you, your world, and the vision in your head. I sketch, refine, and collaborate closely with you until it feels right. The illustrations may even surprise you — but in the best way, leaving you thrilled with the final result.
3. “What if I need to change anything?”
Changes are part of the process. I expect them, I welcome them, and as long as they serve the story, they are never a waste of time.
4. “What if I want to create another book later?”
That’s a wonderful thought! I love building long-term partnerships with authors and carrying their stories forward across more than one book.
5. “What if the whole process feels overwhelming?”
Anything worth doing can feel overwhelming. But if your story is a dream that drives you, it’s worth the journey. While I focus on your illustrations, I’ll be here to support you, answer your questions, and share any insights that may help along the way.
Warmly,
Kyria
