A Small Ritual That Brought Me Back to Social Media
For a while, social media stopped feeling fun.
In September and October I was sharing a lot, creating videos, posting regularly, trying new ideas. At first it felt creative and energising. But by November I could feel the enthusiasm thinning out, and by December I had crossed a sort of invisible line.
I think many creative people recognise that moment.
There is a point where you realise you have simply had too much of something. Once I pass that mental threshold, it becomes almost impossible to force myself back into it.
Part of it was the strange feeling of putting effort into something that might never even be shown, which suddenly made the whole exercise feel a little pointless.
So over Christmas, I stopped.
I told myself I would take a break and come back refreshed. But when January arrived, something surprising happened.
I simply could not bring myself to post anything.
Once you fall out of the rhythm of sharing, starting again somehow feels much harder than stopping.
The Birth of “Monday in the Cabin”
Around the same time, I had been spending a lot of time working in my little cabin.
I have slowly turned that space into something I really love. It is cosy, creative, filled with books, sketches, and warm light. It is a place where ideas feel easier to find.
And I realised I had spent so much time creating that space that it would be a shame not to share it.
So the idea for Monday in the Cabin appeared.
Every Monday I post a short video from the cabin. Sometimes it shows what I am working on. Sometimes it is a small reflection about illustration, storytelling, or creative life. Sometimes it is simply a glimpse into the rhythm of the week.
Nothing elaborate.
Just a small moment from the cabin.
And somehow that one small ritual has made it much easier to keep showing up.
A Little Collection of Mondays
After a few months of sharing these small moments, I realised it might be fun to gather some of them here together.
They feel a bit like little snapshots of the creative weeks passing by.
(Here you can embed a few of your Monday videos.)
Looking at them all together almost feels like flipping through a small visual diary of the cabin.
What Should the Cabin Share Next?
One thing I have realised while doing this series is that we all carry a small voice that whispers:
“No one is really going to resonate with what you share.”
But that voice is rarely correct.
So I would love to know.
If you have been watching the Monday in the Cabin videos, what would you enjoy seeing more of?
More sketching?
More thoughts about illustrating children’s books?
More glimpses of the creative process?
Your ideas might shape the next Mondays in the cabin.
